About classes for your childreen and teens

Having gained so much experience in teaching English to kids of all ages, I understand there is still a huge discrepancy in the amount of time that students learning English as a 2nd language have to speak English, especially with a Native Speaker!

I have therefore tried to dedicate much of my time creating enjoyable conversational topics for children of all ages to talk about.  There are no hard and fast rules e.g. rigid phrases, repetition and strict structure.  My main aim and success is getting students to speak and enjoy the language.

They are broken them down as follows:

Young learners - Kids classes (7 years to teens)Teenage classes (from 13 onwards)

Topics include learning to talk about themselves, their families, the hobbies, their pets, their experience with travel, cooking and much more

For teenagers from 15 onwards have many topics to encourage them to start giving their opinions on topics such as:

Should students wear "branded" fashionable clothes to school? / Should all students have to learn a foreign language in school? /  Do you have to win to be successful? / and much more more....

Remote Learning

Young learners

Where children are exposed to a 2nd language at a very early age, they are far more likely to speak without hesitation because it seems much more natural for them to do so.

We introduce English to them through games and it is no different when taught on line.

With a host of different games, songs, pictures and activities young learners soon start to learn simple phrases to enable them to speak and the rest simply follows with lots of encouragement  and continued expose to the language.

English for kids

Once children start school the emphasis is given to grammar and in some countries the amount of spoken English in the classroom is minimal.  Some parents comes to me and say the level of their children might be a A1, A2, B1 level but in terms of the spoken English it can be much lower because they have spent so much time on grammar they have not been given the chance to speak naturally because all too often "text book" English is taught in the classroom.

This is where I come in.

I do not follow any text books unless parents want this (and this is rare).  My lessons are all prepared to make the children speak!!

There will be useful phrases to help them and I have my friend "Google" on hand to help translate if this is really necessary but the only language spoken in the class is ENGLISH!!

If children need help with a word they don't know in English I encourage them where possible to spell the word from their own language and we translate it into English.  This has the additional benefit of getting them to spell the letters of the alphabet because as children, they learn phonetics, but when they get to the age they need to spell and pronounce letters in English it is a totally different experience for them as it is not the same at all.

English for teens

So when it comes to teenagers, many parents feel despair that their teens don't want to speak in their own language, let alone in a foreign language!

Again, I have immense experience here with teaching teenagers and for some reason I strike up a good relationship with all of my teenagers.

As with anything, I think it is important to treat them like human beings and talk to them as adults not children.

Teenagers enjoy being able to talk about a host of topics and we can have a laugh, discuss many different issues such as "The Generation Gap", "Culture", "The school curriculum", "Social media and "technology", as well as the usual - films, movies, listening to music, video gaming, and much much more.

I always ensure topics are age appropriate and always start with the usual topics getting to know them e.g. learning about them, their family, their hobbies, their likes and dislikes before we even begin to start to talk about the above topics.

What I can guarantee is that 99.5% of my teens return year on year for lessons, I think purely because I let them speak with continually correcting them.
